Tips to help you find new clients on LinkedIn:

1) Make a list of all the companies in your industry that have employees who use LinkedIn. You can find them by doing a search for “company name” + “LinkedIn” or by going to Advanced Search and entering the company name, city and state. Then look at all the employees who work there and see if they have a profile on LinkedIn. If they do, connect with them!

2) Join Groups that are relevant to your business. You can find groups by searching for “group name + industry” or by going to Advanced Search and entering the group name. Once you’re in the group, make sure to participate in discussions and offer your expertise. Be sure to add value for others by commenting on posts and answering questions.

3) Create a Company Page for your company on LinkedIn. This allows people who are searching for companies like yours to find you more easily. Then promote it through social media and email marketing campaigns so people can “Like ” and follow your Company Page.

4) Use LinkedIn Ads to target people who are searching for companies like yours. For example, if your company offers ‘premium finance’, then you can create a LinkedIn ad that targets people searching for “insurance” or similar terms on LinkedIn.

Success on LinkedIn comes down to consistency and will depend on following the steps laid out. Building a network with your targeted connections will help with your reputation and as an authority in your business. Done correctly and being proactive will begin to attract your ideal clients.

How to invite a connection

When inviting members to connect, you can add a personalised message to the recipient to introduce yourself or add context to your relationship.

To add a message to an invitation:

  1. Navigate to the profile of the member you'd like to connect with.
  2. Click the Connect button located in the introduction section.
  3. Click Add a note.
  4. Add your personalised message in the text field.
  5. Click Send invitation.

If the recipient replies to your message, it will appear in your messages.

Notes:

  • You will be asked How do you know [member name]? when you send a connection request. And if you select the option We don’t know each other, you’ll be prompted to send them a message first, to establish a relationship. This could even mean sending them an InMail message based on their messaging settings.
  • Invitations sent from the People You May Know feature in the LinkedIn mobile app can't be personalised.
  • A primary email address is mandatory to send invitations.
  • If the recipient responds to your custom message, a new message thread will appear in your Inbox. A response can be sent without accepting your invitation.
